Make It Known Educators!

There was a piece done by Chris Rawson from TUAW on a university offering either an iPad or a MacBook.

"Smith is aware that the iPad has potential issues associated with it, and he wonders if the iPad will be able to fully meet students' educational needs. According to Smith, "These are the kinds of questions we really won't know the answer to until we get started."

Wrong question.
Ask this: Will electronic textbooks allow for annotation by the student? I see less value of being able to just read a textbook but not be able to write down notes in the margins. This is not an iPad or MacBook or even a PC thing. What will the publishers allow us educators to do? If there is no allowance for annotation then the iPad would just lighten our backpacks and briefcases.
